The St. Croix Historic Preservation Committee works hard to safeguard the architecture and objects that represent and manifest the rich cultural history of St. Croix. So when Gary, Donna & Lance of Caravelle Hotel & Casino Group turned their sights to the renovation of Company House Hotel (aka The Charthouse, aka the Danish Manor) they knew they needed to enlist the care & knowledge of the St. Croix Historic Preservation Committee.
The stately building has passed through at least 28 owners since it's initial construction in the 1760s. The building housed worker's rights pioneer, David Hamilton Jackson, as he drafted his newspaper 'The Herald' and founded The St. Croix Labor Union, after the turn of the 18th century.
Aiming to attract business & inter-island travelers the property's amenities were updated without sacrificing the historical structure or charm of the Company House Hotel. They utilized local artists to reflect the diverse style found only on St Croix, like Jan Mitchell, for a beautiful fused glass mural to backdrop the new pool and Bill Mahan for lighting throughout.
Enlisting local restauranteurs Todd Manley & Brandt Pell to run the warm and inviting bar, Duke's, which hosts live entertainment on Fridays.
A penthouse suite with 4 rooms, a common area, kitchen, and a stellar view of Christiansted is the perfect spot for bridal parties!
The buildings lobby, courtyard, conference rooms and all 33 guest rooms have been refurbished with old colonial style and plenty of beautiful Mahogany.
The end result is a well-curated hotel with thoughtfully crafted travel packages and no shortage of charm.
We can't wait to see what the Caravelle Hotel & Casino Group has insight for their future projects like... race tracks and casinos on St. Croix and St. Thomas, as well as the King Christian Hotel in Christiansted.
