Engagement photography sessions have evolved. They aren’t just about announcements and save the date letters. It’s an opportunity to celebrate & document this stage of your relationship when its all about the two of you.
Goodness knows planning weddings can be hectic. Consider this a great excuse to be together, just the two of you…and me :) capturing the simple joy of being together.
It’s a great opportunity for us to spend time together, get familiar with our individual styles & for you to get comfortable being in front of my lens. I get to experiment with flattering angles, poses and lighting levels specific to you, before the wedding day.
One of my biggest suggestions when planning most photography sessions is that you wear something you are comfortable in. It can be tempting to get yourself fancy new outfits, (and I am so for that) just be sure to wear them before your session to make sure they are comfy. We want you to feel like a million bucks because it will come across in your images.
As much as you consider how your engagement outfits make you feel, think also about how they’ll photograph. Solid colors are a must, avoid patterns, plaids & head-to-toe black or white clothing. Wearing excessive amounts of jewelry can be too distracting, but a statement piece can add a personal touch, just don’t let it distract from the subject, you.
You can make this an opportunity to work with your hair & make-up crew also. Photos require slightly more saturated makeup than your every day look so that you don’t become washed out. So unless you feel confident in your hair and makeup skills, it may be a smart move to schedule your make-up consult.
Why not make a day of it? Sleep in, go out to brunch, get a couples massage… spend time together, fall into the natural comfort you only feel in the company of that one other person. The best photos happen when you’re living in the moment and totally forget that my camera and I are there at all.
If you do find yourself getting nervous, go in for a kiss! …or take a deep breath and enjoy your surroundings.
Chances are, you are on a sunny beach with rocky cliffs flanking you like natures skyscrapers, pelicans diving for their dinner, wind and waves playing a tune akin to a track on meditation cd. Maybe you are at an old Danish property where the islands rich history is palpable, stored in the sand, molasses & stone of the buildings that were formed 200 years ago. Saint Croix harbors a surplus of absolutely stunning locations and I am more than happy to help recommend the location best suited for the two of you.
Chronicling these moments becomes more meaningful as the years go by. As your relationship grows and evolves, looking back on where it all began is a catalyst to some deeply tender moments.
“One day, I caught myself smiling without reason, then I realized I was thinking of you.” -unknown
The importance of professional photography cannot be understated in a day and age when most people are packing 12-megapixel cameras in their pockets. Over the years hard drives full of vacation photos, birthdays and anniversaries will stack up. Professionally captured and edited images give a clarity and honesty to your memories that should not be undervalued.
I've spent a lifetime with a camera in arms reach, trigger finger ready to capture tender moments.
Moments to look back on when they become memories.
